So, with that in mind, let's peruse a few things that might just be the perfect gift for someone you know.
We are already well into December and the holidays are fast approaching. There are all kinds of lists out there for the hottest gifts or the "must-haves", but today I want to take a look at what it means to find the "The Perfect Gift." For starters, the perfect gift is something uniquely suited to the recipient. A little known definition of unique is, "...not likely to be found at a big box store." So, with that in mind, let's peruse a few things that might just be the perfect gift for someone you know. #1 We will not be open on Thanksgiving, enjoy the day with your family and friends.
#2 No need to sharpen your elbows, we offer a relaxed, fun shopping experience. #3 Spend some of your holiday shopping time discovering the "must sees" rather than chasing the "must haves," (you can probably borrow any or all of those items from your neighbors by mid-January). Finally, from our family to yours, thank you!! 1. Great Discounts! Vendors throughout the mall will have special discounts in effect for the weekend. The perfect opportunity to pick up some quality bargains. 2. Unique Holiday Gifts! I know, I know, we just had Halloween, but you-know-what is right around the corner. Why not use the chance to check out some truly unique holiday ideas? 3. Buy Local! Remember, when you make a purchase at Yesterday's Treasures you are supporting local vendors. Your money is NOT going to some corporate headquarters in another state or country. 4. Be Green! By purchasing previously used, upcycled or refinished items you are making a difference. 5. Time for that Winter Project! The weather has turned, it's a great time to dust off the workbench and get to work on a project. Come take a look to get ideas or to pick up a project piece.
If you haven't, we highly recommend you stop by. They have women's hats, gloves, purses, scarves, both faux and real furs, and of course dresses, skirts, blouses and suits!
As you can probably imagine, Caroline and I spend quite a bit of our time book scouting. Today we wanted to focus on some interesting finds right here at Yesterday's Treasures. I think Caroline found some real gems and something of interest to just about everyone, book person or no. In Booth 77, she found these abridged classics for young readers, $1.50 each. Speaking of classics, Booth 54 has this nice, hardbound copy of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility for $10.00. Over in our own shop, Booth 95, Caroline is especially fond of, The President's Mystery Plot. The plot of the book was proposed by FDR and then each chapter was written by a different prominent mystery writer of the time, including Erle Stanley Gardner of Perry Mason fame. Looking for more of a coffee table item? How about Booth 22's, The World Atlas of Wine? A nice piece for any budget at $8.00. We just can't resist the classics and this set of James Fenimore Cooper is well worth the $12 price tag. Booth 34 is where you'll find this one. Finally, if you are heading out to see the new thriller Gone Girl, why not pick up a nice, later printing of the first edition in dust jacket, $15 in booth 95. With Fall officially here, it's time to get going on a new project. Come take a look at the "Workshop" area of Yesterday's Treasures and see the possibilities! Before you head to that big box store, come in and see if we don't have what you're looking for. That perfect piece for your home or collection might be right here in Chesterton. Authentic, green, and affordable, isn't that what you really want?
If you have some idea of what you are looking for, be it another piece for your collection or something "film buffy" to tie the family room together, I would encourage you to share it with the Staff. Not only can they guide you towards items you might not have found on your own, they can be on the lookout for you as new pieces are brought in. There is also the very good possibility they know which vendors to contact to locate what your looking for. In addition to finding the perfect piece to fit your theme, the Staff can also be helpful to collectors. They can put you in touch with vendors that have expertise in, say, books for example! Or vinyl records, or Pez dispensers to name just a few.
So next time you're in the mall, looking for that special item, remember to check with the staff, they are happy to help! One thing we've been doing is trying to draw attention to interesting items here at Yesterday's Treasures by posting photos here on the website and also on Facebook. I don't believe we've ever set out with a specific theme or plan in mind so this week we thought we'd hunt down a variety of clocks in the mall. Here's what we found. We have received a lot of positive feedback about Upcycling and the various forms it can take. I thought I would share how to easily find ideas and inspiration for your own project. For those of you who use Pinterest, there is a page devoted to antique upcycle which you can visit here. The ideas range from the strange to the practical to whimsical and pretty darn cool. My thought is not to promote any specific idea but merely to show what is possible and perhaps start you on your own project, after a visit to Yesterday's Treasures of course! Now, this one is probably beyond most of our abilities for a weekend project, but it qualifies as a piece that got me thinking. I ran across a number of bookcase ideas. Here's another one: Again, not sure I ever would have thought up this one on my own, an old door repurposed as a bookcase. Of course there are all kinds of materials to work with and final products to produce. Have a lot of old license plates around? I found a dozen interesting ideas for using them without breaking a sweat. In fact, we already have a vendor using them for something new and interesting, recognize these? So, whether you are looking at a specific piece you want, like a bookcase: or, you have materials but don't know what to do with them, check out upcycle ideas with Pinterest or better yet, stop in and ask for advice! |
