I think I read somewhere that there is a new Star Wars movie coming out later this year. We decided to look around the mall and see if we could find any evidence of Luke, Han, Leia and Darth.... This week marked the end of summer and start of fall. Along with being a pleasant time of year (this week has been particularly beautiful!) this is a great time to take stock of your booths if you are a vendor. As patrons turn their attention from carefree summer pursuits to a return to school and work and (egad!) the approaching holidays it couldn't hurt to spruce up your booths and freshen up your merchandise.
We've got all kinds of unique gifts for Dad! Come take a look and see if you can't find something your father will enjoy. Here are a few places to start:
Usually we use this space to highlight specific items that are available or specific projects one can take on. This time however, we thought we would try to a bit larger scope and try to show what it's like to view a whole booth at a time. If you live outside Chesterton or you've never visited the Mall then we hope that this inspires you to make the trip and come and see us.
We wanted to share an email and some photos from a happy patron who used a few vintage suitcases for an art project. It's always great to see how our customers and vendors use their imaginations. Tom, thank you for sharing!
Hello. I came in today (Wednesday) and bought three suitcases for my daughter’s art show at Chesterton High School. I have taken a picture of them and tagged your shop on your Facebook page. It is used for (an) IB/Advanced Art show at Chesterton High School. Just thought you could use the publicity. I appreciated your help today and the 10% discount. Sincerely, Tom When decorating, don't forget to consider texture. One of the great things about vintage and antique items is the great variety of textures available. Books are a great example of an item that you might not associate with this idea. Of course there are all kinds of different textures to use in your decor. Here are just a few examples of the variety available here at Yesterday's Treasures: Rough wood to smooth bamboo, wrought iron to ceramics, the possibilities are inspiring!
We are renaming the blog to a title that captures our intentions a little clearer. We want you to come here for ideas and well--inspiration--for your projects, collections, gift giving and decorating. As we look forward to Spring and the new beginnings that go with it, consider dropping by to give your imagination a jump-start. Yesterday's Treasures is full of possibilities waiting to be realized.
Like many of you, I went home for Christmas. Because my last visit was some time ago, my Dad showed me some of the things he had been working on and completed over the past year. My folks upgraded their television (finally) from a big, heavy tube set to a nice new flat-screen. The problem was their entertainment center was built for the old bulky set and not the new sleek one. What to do with the old piece? He tried to sell it but no takers. He couldn't even get the local re-sale shop interested. So, he decided to re-purpose what was an otherwise nice (and heavy) piece of furniture. My Dad replaced the outer hinges and made the drawers deeper (they were shallow for holding CDs). He removed the swivel platform that held the television and adjusted the shelves to a slight incline. He then filled the baskets with his clothes and he now has a perfectly functional "closet."
